About Dr. Francessa Ferrentelli
Francesca Ferrentelli, Ph.D. is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Board Certified Coach, Mythologist, storyteller, and artist. She is also a trained and authorized SoulCollage ® facilitator, and a certified American Lung Association “Freedom from Smoking” facilitator.
Dr. Ferrentelli has private practice offices in the Tower Grove South neighborhood in St. Louis, and in Washington, MO. Her work with healthy body image started in 1991, when she began working as a part-time family therapist for the Rader Institute, which was a national provider of inpatient Eating Disorders Treatment. She was eventually promoted to director and worked there until 1998 when she began her doctoral studies. Ever since then, she has retained affiliations with various local hospitals: St. Alexius, Mercy, and SSM.
Her private practice began in 1993 and she specializes in eating disorders, healthy body image, bariatric surgical evaluation and support, adult children of alcoholics, alcohol recovery, self-esteem, and life transitions. She has presented numerous lectures locally and throughout the country, including the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons (2001) and the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (2005). She began working with bariatric patients in 1998 and her dissertation centers around gastric bypass surgery and the myth of Dionysos (2003).
She received her Master’s Degree in Professional Psychology at Lindenwood University in 1993, and her Doctorate in Mythological Studies from Pacifica Graduate Institute in 2003. She serves on the board as vice-president and marketing coordinator of the C. G. Jung Society of Saint Louis. She is currently working on a book about Aphrodite and healthy body image.
She is a first generation Italian-American and lives in New Haven, MO. She spends her spare time reading, cooking, doing art, and traveling with her husband, Mike. One of her biggest passions is helping people feel better about themselves and about their bodies

"2012 Status of Women in NC: Challenges and Opportunities Facing NC's Women"
Beth Briggs serves as Executive Director of the North Carolina Council for Women. A statewide advocacy agency that advises the Governor, the NC General Assembly and policy makers on issues impacting women in the state.
The Council has a staff of 16 and administers grants in excess of $12,000,000 annually to a variety of programs that seek to improve the lives of women and their families. The grants support programs that address domestic violence, sexual assault and provide self sufficiency for displaced homemakers. Briggs’ goal for the year is to raise awareness of the current status of women in the state and of the importance of helping women become physically safe and financially secure. This fall the Council will release the 2012 NC Status of Women Report the first since 1996.
From 1995-2012, Briggs was founder and principal of Creative Philanthropy, a philanthropic consulting firm that advised donors and foundations throughout North Carolina. She served as a catalyst for North Carolina’s women's philanthropy by helping establish eight women's funds and women's giving circles that have granted millions of dollars to nonprofits serving women and children. She has worked to help educate hundreds of women about the impact of collective giving on communities.

Prior to coming to NC, Kate served as a special education due process hearing officer, complaint investigator, and mediator for eleven years, and taught a special education law class at the graduate level. Additionally, she conducted negotiation and peer mediation trainings with students and consulted with school personnel to institute anti-bullying programs. Kate currently conducts ADA mediations for the U.S. Department of Justice.

"Fracking in NC: Worth the Risk"
What is Fracking? Relatively new drilling technology, high-volume horizontal hydraulic fracturing, now makes it possible to reach natural gas reserves. Commonly referred to as "horizontal hydrofracking" or just "fracking," deep-shale natural gas drilling uses high-pressure injection of water, sand, and chemicals to release the trapped gas.
Ms. Ouzts coordinates policy development, research, grassroots outreach, and legislative strategy for Environment North Carolina. She is the co-author of numerous reports on global warming and preservation, and has testified before the state legislature on a wide range of issues, from water quality to renewable energy.
A graduate of the NC School of Science and Math, Ms. Ouzts began her work with the state PIRGs in New Jersey, where she completed service for NJ Community Water Watch, a project of NJPIRG Law and Policy Center. In 1998, she returned to North Carolina to work with NCPIRG. She became the director of NCPIRG in 2001, then launched Environment North Carolina in 2006.

In 1996, Secretary of State Elaine F. Marshall became the first woman ever elected to a statewide, executive branch office in North Carolina. Secretary Marshall was a member of the NC State Senate before rising to statewide office. She holds a B.S. in Home Economics from the University of Maryland and a law degree (JD) from Campbell University. She has received Honorary Doctorate Degrees from Campbell University, Lees McRae College and Meredith College.
She serves as co-Chair of the NC-Moldova Partnership for Peace and recently received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the Republic of Moldova State University of Medicine. Since becoming Secretary of State, she has received numerous state and national awards for leadership in technology, government innovation, and women's leadership.
